American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology and other nations’ leading birth organizations and the social organizations who seek to guide their practice with statistical and ethical considerations are working more collaboratively now to reduce the uncontrollable cesarean section.
A recent review shows “cesarean section rates increased from 22.8% to 42.2% in Latin American and the Caribbean, 18.5% to 32.6% in Oceania, 22.3% to 32.3% in North America, 11.2% to 25% in Europe, 4.4% to 19.5% in Asia, and 2.9% to 7.4% in Africa. In view of this unprecedented rise, in 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a Statement on caesarean declaring that caesarean section rates higher than 10% are not associated with reductions in maternal and newborn mortality rates, and, as for any surgical procedure, a caesarean section can result in complications, disability or death, particularly in settings that lack the facilities and/or capacity to properly conduct safe surgery.”
Their conclusion is to get high thinkers together in and outside the structures directing birth care. Going “beyond borders” includes the talents and skills of many dedicated individuals which they call stakeholders – parents, caregivers, and policymakers. The review says, “The synthesis showed how inter- and intra-system power differentials, and stakeholder commitment, exert strong mechanisms of effect on caesarean section rates, independent of the theoretical efficacy of specific interventions to reduce them.”
Physiology Before Force
Spinning Babies® appears as a twinkle on the horizon as a contributor to the cause. Please include yourself as a contributor to the magnitude of Spinning Babies. Share this post to open the conversation of physiological birth first, before the focus on interventions takes the time and resources – without the infrastructures of medical technology where such concepts are being exported. In other words, expensive, technological solutions are being exported to lower resource birth teams.
Lives are saved in higher numbers when the solutions are in our hands, literally. Spinning Babies puts physiological solutions in your hands. Try Sidelying Release tonight and release the solution inherent in the body of the Birth Giver.
