Congratulations on entering your 40th week of pregnancy! Enjoy this milestone as a sign that you’ve nurtured yourself and your baby to a healthy, full-term pregnancy. Meanwhile, don’t give too much power to the 40-week “due” date. Does a baby know to come out in one particular 24-hour period? Of course not. Being “due” is not a date on the calendar.

Being due is being ripe and ready to enter the mystery of your birth.
When we expect a baby due on a certain day and that day passes, some parents feel stressed; others feel a little grief. Texts begin asking, “Is the baby here yet?” Yep, baby’s here, we just can’t see baby. One answer might be, “We’ll let you know when you can come to see baby. We’d be so grateful for a meal or if you’d start a load of laundry when you come!”
Seriously, watching the clock makes everyone crazy. Do something creative and watch a funny movie. Baby will be born.
Know, too, that while any time between 37 and 42 weeks is considered full-term, giving birth during the 41st week of pregnancy is very common, especially in first-time birthing people. For now, nourish yourself and your baby with good food, water, and walking. Relax deeply. Treat yourself to a prenatal massage. Enjoy waiting for that first sign of labor. It’s magic.
Continue promoting balance in your body and pelvis. Balance activities and exercises include the Four body balancing techniques , walking, psoas release, and stretches.
The only thing you’re “due” for this week is to be in a peaceful, accepting state of mind. Labor will only start when baby is ready.
None of these techniques will start labor early when done gently and as taught on SpinningBabies.com. But some people find these techniques help labor get established when contractions are beginning but not progressing.
A baby’s weight at 40 weeks ranges from 6.5 to 9 pounds while measuring between 18 to 22 inches long. From a Spinning Babies® perspective, the question this week is, “Is your baby engaged?” Engagement is when the widest part of the baby’s presenting part (usually the head) enters the pelvic brim or inlet. Check to see if your baby is engaged, and if not, learn Spinning Babies® techniques to help labor engage baby when it does begin.
Treat yourself to something unrelated to pregnancy. Take a lovely walk and then a long soak with Epsom salts.
Enjoy yourself, have a little party for you and your partner, and don’t worry about when the baby is coming. Give yourself a break.
Affirmations are short, powerful statements that can affect your conscious thoughts. Close your eyes, breathe deeply and slowly, and repeat the following to yourself each day throughout the next week. Fill yourself with breath and feel the joy:
